Martin Jerome Nadeau Sr.

12/5/1927 - 8/3/2023

Martin Nadeau Sr., age 95, of Monroe, passed away August 3, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family in Monroe, MI.

Martin was born December 5, 1927 to the late Theresa (Cousino) and Eli Nadeau in Monroe. Martin graduated from Monroe High School in the class of ’46. Martin served his country in the Army from 1950 through 1952 where he was stationed in Germany and later transferred to the Army Reserves from 1952-1957.

In 1954 Martin married the love of his life, Catherine Basile, and they enjoyed 69 years of marriage. Martin was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

After his time in the Army, Martin retired from Ford Motor Company where he was a repairman for 34 years.

Martin was very proud of his time in the Army and the friends he made while serving and even got together with many of them annually at each other’s hometowns across the country. Martin enjoyed making trips to the casinos, hiking through the woods, bowling and golfing (even scoring a hole in one at a Canadian golf course).

While in high school, Martin’s claim to fame was being captain of the MHS Trojans Cross Country Team. In 1945, he placed sixth in the state tournament and earned his yearbook title “Like a flash of lightning.” Also, Martin, a great dancer, loved music and his favorite song was “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang.

Martin is survived by sons: Martin (Leisa) Jr. and Michael Nadeau, daughter Kim (Tommy) Goins; Grandchildren: Jasmine (Vince) Sheffield, James (Ryan) Bishop, Frank (Gabby) Nadeau and Marleise (Parker) Gutschow; great-grandchildren: Valor and Crew Bishop and Amiya and Kai Gutschow.
