Marshall Nestor Obituary

Marshall F. “Fred” Nestor Jr.

December 26, 1957 – May 18, 2024

Mashall F. “Fred” Nestor Jr. age 66, of Monroe, passed away at 3:01 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024, in his home with his loving wife at his side.

Born December 26, 1957, in Camilla, Georgia, he was the son of the late Marshall F. and Betty G. (Rowan) Nestor, Sr. He married Tanya Redford in Greenup, Kentucky, on November 11, 1977. Fred worked in the maintenance department at the DTE Monroe Power Plant for thirty-six years, retiring in 2017. He was a member of Local 223. In his younger years, Fred enjoyed bowling in the leagues at Nortel Lanes and playing softball for DTE. He always looked forward to trips salmon fishing, canoeing down the AuSable River, and white water rafting with his best friend Larry Wynn. Fred could often be heard singing his own made-up songs. He always knew a shortcut that most times ended up taking a bit longer than it would have otherwise. Fred was a longtime Lions fan, who loved attending games when they were at the Silverdome and cherished time spent watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. Fred and his wife frequented Benny’s Restaurant and since his retirement, ate there daily to have breakfast at his reserved table. He will be remembered as rough on the outside, but kind and loving on the inside.

To cherish his memory, Fred leaves his beloved wife of forty-seven years, Tanya of Monroe; two children, Marshall (Katrina) Nestor of Northwood, Ohio and Kelha (David Lion) Nestor of Monroe; five grandchildren: Dane, Peyton, Skyler, Myles, and Shealyn; and beloved golden doodle, Charlie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Ryker, in 2020, and one brother, William L. Nestor, in 2001.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, from 1 p.m. until services celebrating his life begin at 3 p.m. Rev. Victor Holtz will officiate.

Memorial contributions in Fred’s memory are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
