Marjorie Ann “Dittie” Kehres
January 20, 1938 – July 29, 2023
Marjorie, age 85 of Monroe, passed away on July 29, 2023, at Waltonwood Main in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
Dittie was born January 20, 1938, to the late Amilda (Specht) and Leonard S. Liedel of Maybee, Michigan. She graduated from St. Mary Academy in 1956. After high school, Dittie worked for six years as an installation order clerk for Michigan Bell Telephone Company. On January 20, 1962, she married John Kehres, her high school sweetheart, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maybee, Michigan.
Once married, Dittie became a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. Dittie was an avid sports fan and loved to watch her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews play. If you heard a cow bell during an exciting moment of their games, you can bet it was her ringing it! She also loved the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings and would even stay up late to watch the games on the west coast. Dittie would often get so involved in the games that sometimes she would have to step into another room during tense moments. Ditty loved playing catch with her grandsons and watching her granddaughter’s dance recitals. Aside from sports, Dittie had a passion for baking. Her banana sheet cake and chocolate chip cookies were always a favorite and were frequently requested by friends and family. Dittie loved to bake so much that she would often prepare desserts for the funeral luncheons at St. Michael’s Catholic Church and the fish fries at St. Joseph in Erie Township.
Dittie is survived by sons John and Paul (Colleen) Kehres, daughter Valerie Sandoval, brother Larry (Pat LaRose) Liedel, sisters Phyllis (Ray) Bobich and Barb (Joe) Marino, and grandchildren Nathaniel, Michael and Amelia.
Dittie was preceded in death by her husband John in 2002, and brothers Don (Rose), Gus (Donna), Art (Pauline), and Leonard (Mary Ellen), and sisters Betty (Carl) Schmidt, Jane (Sod) Gerhardt, Micky (Gene) Durocher, Ruth Dean, and sister-in-law Vickie (Larry) Liedel.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, from 1pm until 7pm at the Rupp Funeral Home with the Rosary taking place at 6pm. A funeral mass for Dittie will take place August 10th, 2023, at 11am at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Monroe with Fr. Kishore Babu Battu officiating. The committal service will take place immediately after the funeral at St. Joseph Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at St. Michael’s following the interment.
In lieu of flowers, it was Dittie’s wish that donations be made to St. Mary Catholic Central High School, St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, or The American Diabetes Association in her honor. The Rupp Family is honored to be assisting the family of Dittie in their time of need.
