April 30, 1949 – February 27, 2025

Maria Bogdan, age 75 of Monroe, passed away at 2:00 a.m. Thursday, February 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in her home.

Born April 30, 1949, in Romania, she is the daughter of the late Nicolae and Eleonora (Negrean) Moraru. Maria married her beloved husband, Cornel Bogdan, on October 23, 1971, in Romania. She worked for Monroe Public School for many years.

She was known as Mia to her friends and family and as Buna once she became a grandmother. She had a very kind, generous & charitable soul. Everyone felt welcome into her home and nobody ever left her home hungry. She was an amazing cook & baker and famous for her apricot jam filled “damn” cookies. She enjoyed music & dancing in social settings. Her character was strong. She lived life as a natural leader with tremendous resilience & resolve. Her favorite hobby was being a grandma. She loved caring for and nurturing her grandkids every chance she had. Even in her most challenging times, seeing and hearing her grandchildren’s voices absolutely made her face & heart light up. 

To cherish her memory, Maria leaves her husband, Cornel Bogdan of Monroe; son, Corneliu (Courtney) Bogdan of Fishers, Indiana; daughter, Diana (Jim) Konrad of Monroe; two sisters, Marcela (Ioan) Ursu of Romeo, Michigan and Rodica (Gheorghe) Fonta of Romania; and four grandchildren: Jacob, Livia, Dillon, and Andrei.

In addition to his parents, she was preceded in death by two siblings, Nicu and Cornelia.

Family and friends may visit from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home, 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161, where a Pomen Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Maria will lie in state on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church. Funeral liturgy will begin at 11 a.m. Rev Fr. Ljubomir Rajic will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
