Margaret M. (DeClercq) Howerton

April 25, 1919 – April 5, 2021

Margaret M. (DeClercq) Howerton, 101, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021.

Born April 25, 1919 in Jasper, Michigan to Albert and Maria (Simaeys) DeClercq.

Margaret attended Dundee schools. She married Ernest Howerton on March 17, 1940. Ernest died on July 30, 1972.

Margaret retired from the Chrysler Corp. Trenton Plant after 20 years; then completed her high school education in 1984. She spent many years attending Monroe Center for the Aging involved in dancing, exercise classes, playing cards, sign language, bingo, and Senior Olympics. She was a tireless worker and could knock out walls, build walls, put up ceilings, do electrical, do yard work, and looked good doing it all. She made her children proud.

Survived by her five children: Carol Dykstra, Joyce (Bob) Kipf-Trowbridge, Ernest Howerton, Howie (Stevie) Mullis, and Betty (Louie) Knapp; and brother, George DeClercq.

Grandchildren: Kevin DiSabatino, Tammy DiSabatino, Eric DiSabatino, Darin DiSabatino, Scott Kipf, Mark Kipf, Max Fowler, John Fowler, Danielle Pearch, Ernest Howerton III, and Sarah Nasser.

Also survived by 21 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, a brother Joseph DeClercq, sister Virginia Jaworski, a grandson, and a great granddaughter.

According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. No services are planned. A celebration of her life was held for her 100th birthday. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home.

Special thanks to the staff at Medilodge and ProMedica Hospice for her excellent care.

If someone wants to leave a memorial, we might suggest Hospice or Monroe Center for the Aging.
