Madeline R. Lemerand
November 18, 1925 – November 22, 2021

Madeline Rachel Lemerand, age 96 of Monroe, went home to be with the Lord on Monday November 22, 2021.

Born November 18, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Gustaaf and Marie (Staelens) DeBacker. Madeline met and married the love of her life, Thomas M. Lemerand on June 14, 1947 at St. Joseph Church in Maybee, Michigan. Together they raised six children which Madeline devoted her life to raising. Sadly, Thomas preceded her in death on December 31, 1985.

Madeline was a longtime member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Monroe. She was a current resident of Wellspring Lutheran Home, where she received excellent care. In her spare time, Madeline loved to crochet and do needlework, bake, garden, read and play cards. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Madeline leaves behind her six children, Kenneth Lemerand, James (Theresa) Lemerand, Joan (Dave) Greer, Karen (Jim) McGlynn, Janet (Keith) Sortor and Linda (Gerard) Michael; sister, Elizabeth Samsel; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband, Madeline is preceded in death by her brother, Albert DeBacker; sister, Martha Staelgraeve; and son-in-law, Dave Greer.

Family and friends may visit on Friday, November 26, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home from 2-7:30 p.m., where a rosary will be held that evening at the conclusion of visitation. Madeline will lie in state Saturday, November 27, 2021, at St. Michael Church starting at 9 a.m. until the funeral mass at 10 a.m. Father Kishore Babu Battu, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will take place after the funeral mass at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.
