Lynn Powers Obituary

Lynn B. Powers

November 14, 1939 – February 14, 2021

Lynn Brooks Powers, age 81 of Carleton, passed away on Valentine’s day on Sunday, February 14, 2021.

He was born November 14, 1939 in in Monroe. He one of four children born to the late Kenneth and Bessie Mae (Lewis) Powers. After graduating from Monroe High School, Lynn proudly served our country as a Seabee in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963. He was stationed at Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas. It was there that he became highly respected Mechanic, getting particularly good reports from surrounding Commanding Officers. This carried over into his everyday life-being a jack of all trades. There was not anything he couldn’t do or fix, and many would seek him out for his assistance. Lynn was always ready and willing to help whenever needed.

Lynn met the love of his life: Kathleen Koss. They got married on September 27, 1974 in LaSalle and were later blessed at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carleton. They spent over 36 wonderful years together before Kathy’s passing in 2010. Lynn and Kathy spent many of their days together wandering from flea markets to garage sales to search for treasure. Both also had a passion for Corvettes and clock & watch repair.

Lynn made his living working at the Dundee Cement Company for 31 years before retiring. He then became the maintenance and grounds keeper for St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, including their school and cemeteries. Lynn enjoyed doing that for a little over 10 years.

Lynn loved spending time with his good friends, sharing company over a meal or just sharing common interests. He was born three days before his lifelong friend Charlie Wolfe, with whom he talked twice a week his whole life between their many visits with each other. You never had to wonder what he was thinking because he always spoke his mind.

He touched more lives than he could ever know and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Beloved brother of Patricia (Lamant) Miller. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Lynn is preceded in death by his wife: Kathleen Powers, and siblings: Kenneth Powers and Rosemary Heil.

Everyone is invited to a memorial mass on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Divine Grace Parish-St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Carleton starting at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow at Anson’s Restaurant, located at 9811 Exeter Road in Carleton.
