Lynn Henry Barker, age 73 of Monroe, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, with family by his side, at the ProMedica Regional Hospital of Monroe.
Born February 7, 1951, in Hudson, New York. Lynn was the son of the late Lester and Maryellen (Gerring) Barker. Lynn graduated from Fort Plain High School, NY, in 1969. He later continued his education through State University New York (SUNY) and earned his associate degree of science.
Lynn met his wife Sharron Jellerson while attending Plattsburgh State University. They got married on July 1, 1972, in Whitesboro, NY. Shortly thereafter, Lynn enlisted in the United States Navy serving on the USS Narwhal and USS George C. Marshall nuclear submarines for 8 years from 1975 to 1983. Sharron travelled with him wherever he was stationed throughout the United States, before finally settling in the Monroe area after being honorably discharged.
In their younger years, they both enjoyed traveling all over the United States and to places like Mexico, Germany, and Italy. You could also find them at many different live concerts, especially classic rock shows. They then raised a family of two children and spent over 52 years together.
Lynn worked at the Fermi II Power Plant, starting as a Nuclear Operator and retired after 25 years in 2008. Thereafter, he started consulting in the nuclear industry across various nuclear plants. He became a teacher who taught classes as well as wrote their Nuclear Operator exams.
Lynn was a long-term Masonic member. He loved to collect and fix cars. He even built his own engine for his ’69 Ford Fairlane, a car he was restoring in his spare time. Whenever friends were looking for a specific car, Lynn loved to shop for them. He also liked to watch hockey and enjoyed Red Wings and Toledo Storm games. Lynn loved his pets, including his cat, Axel. He also enjoyed watching old school action “flicks” or his favorite television shows while eating Jet’s Pizza.
Lynn enjoyed spending quality time with his friends and family. Lynn will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of his loved ones.
