Lena Elizabeth Woelmer
November 6, 1932 – February 4, 2025
Lena Elizabeth Woelmer, age 92 of Monroe, passed away peacefully at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born November 6, 1932, in Cedar Canyon, South Dakota. She is the daughter of the late George and Rose (Gerber) Wurster. Lena’s parents moved to Monroe when she was just an infant. She attended Monroe High School, graduating with the class of 1951. Lena married her beloved husband of sixty-three years, Donald F. Woelmer, on May 11, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Monroe. Sadly, he preceded her in death on October 26, 2020. Lena was a lifelong homemaker, also working for Detroit Stoker, Monroe Paper Products and H & R Block. She was the bookkeeper for her family’s farm. Lena was a longtime member of East Ida Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was a part of the Ladies Aid Society. In her spare time, Lena enjoyed tending to her garden, caring for her chickens, and baking. She was also a longtime vendor at the Monroe Farmers Market.
To cherish her memory, Lena leaves one daughter, Susan(Terry) Siebarth of Monroe; three sons: Pastor James (Rachel) Woelmer of Manhattan, Kansas, Thomas (Janie) Woelmer of Monroe, and Michael (Christine) Woelmer of Milan; ten grandchildren: Pastor Joshua (Brianna) Woelmer, Jacob (Abbey) Woelmer, Pastor David (Elizabeth) Woelmer, Andrew Woelmer, Bethany (Kyle) Johnson, Grace (Pastor Jacob) Tuma, Melissa (Travis) Fusilier, Chelsea (Capt. Aaron, US Army) Crapsey, Elizabeth (Spencer) Orlando and Julia Woelmer; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lena was preceded in death by one brother, Phillip Wurster; one sister, Louise Brkljacic; one brother-in-law, John Brkljacic; and one sister-in-law, Barbara Wurster.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home, 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161. Lena will lie in state at 10 am on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at East Ida Immanuel Lutheran Church, where services celebrating her life will begin at 11 a.m. Rev. Curtis Garland, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow at East Ida Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Monroe.
