Lela Cathrine Schwartz, age 81, of Monroe, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Born August 22, 1944, in Monroe, she was one of six children born from the union of the late Freman and Cathrine (Marten) Stickney. In March of 1967, Lela married the love of her life, Donald Schwartz, and together they raised four children. She pursued a career that would last for more than forty years at Mercy Memorial Hospital and retired as a Purchasing Agent.

Lela was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Her family was always her number one priority. Her grandchildren were very special to her, and she loved reading Curious George to her great granddaughter Riley. Lela and Don spent years camping with their family graduating from a tent to a fifth wheel.

In her spare time, she loved to do crafts. Lela enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and making wreaths and would share her finished products with others.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her loving husband of fifty-nine years, Donald Schwartz, her children; Frank Schwartz and Tina (Dale) Vandaam Parsons, a sister, Linda Oblinger, four grandchildren; Thomas Schwartz, Michael Schwartz, Jame Schwartz and Anthony Parsons and one great granddaughter, Riley Lynn Schwartz.

Lela is preceded in death by two sons; Donald Jr. and Richard Schwartz and four brothers; Freeman, Richard, Robert and Larry Stickney.

A private family graveside service will take place at LaSalle Township Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home.
