Larry R. Hilliard

Larry Robert Hilliard, age 79 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Fountain View of Monroe.
Born November 9, 1943 in Monroe, MI. He was the son of the late Robert and Selma (Graf)Hilliard. Larry graduated from Monroe High School in 1961. He continued his education at Monroe Community College to receive his associate degree in industrial management. Larry worked at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn as an automotive chassis designer for 32 years before retiring in 2000.
Larry met and married the love of his life: Allie Henry on December 5, 1964, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church by Reverend Charles Beynon. They went on to raise a family of two children and spent over 58 wonderful years together.
Larry was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Monroe. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and wildlife lover. Larry was a wildlife artist and donated to various clubs and organizations. He was a member of the Canvasback Gun Club, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, VFW Men’s Auxiliary, the Monroe Arts and Crafts League, and Monroe Area Streetrods. Larry loved to go roller skating, bowl, play golf, and spend time with his family and grandchildren.
To cherish his memory, Larry leaves his loving wife of 58 years, Allie; daughter, Holly (Joe) Thompson of Monroe; son, Rob (Tammy) Hilliard of Shelby Township; grandchildren: Josh (Emily) Thompson of Monroe, Taylor (Randy Bennett) Thompson of Ypsilanti, Bobby Hilliard of Shelby Township, and Anna Hilliard of Shelby Township; great grandson, Hayden Thompson; siblings: Bonnie (James) Tolen of Columbiaville, MI, Barbara Smith of Monroe, John (Sue) Hilliard of Sparta, TN, and Michael (Carrie) Hilliard; many nieces and nephews; and four legged companion: Zoey. Larry was preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Selma Hilliard.
Family and friends are welcome to a visitation on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Rupp Funeral Home from 2:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Rupp Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 am. Family friend, Deacon Mike Stewart will officiate. Burial will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations in honor of Larry are suggested to St. Paul United Methodist Church or the Humane Society of Monroe.
