Kenneth L. Thomas
October 30, 1948 – January 9, 2026
Kenneth L. Thomas, a beloved father, papaw, and friend, passed away on January 9, 2026, at the age of 77, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital in Monroe, Michigan. Born on October 30, 1948, in Monroe, Kenneth lived a life full of dedication to family, work, and his many passions.
Kenneth attended Monroe High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he began a long and fulfilling career as a Union Laborer, initially through Local 465, which later became part of Local 499. He retired with respect and admiration from his peers in the labor community.
An avid outdoorsman, Kenneth loved duck, deer, and pheasant hunting. Fishing for perch, walleye, and crappie was another cherished pastime. He found great joy in gardening and took pride in growing and canning tomatoes and green beans, sharing his bountiful harvests with friends and family.
He enjoyed watching sports with a particular fondness for the Detroit Tigers and the TV show "Ridiculousness." Friday nights were often spent playing card games with friends, and he enjoyed attending horse races. Kenneth had a knack for metal detecting, delighting in the discovery of old coins and arrowheads. His talents extended to the pool table, where he won numerous trophies and jackets.
Family was central to Kenneth's life. He is survived by his son, Kenneth (Rachael) Thomas of Monroe; two daughters, Kally Thomas and Kacie Thomas, both of Monroe; and seven grandchildren: Kelis, Mitch, Brooklyn, Keana, Korbin, Kollin, and Kennedy. He cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren and treated his children's pets as his fur grandbabies. The loss of his special hunting dog, Spooky, whom he missed deeply after his passing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mary Thomas; brothers: James, Charlie, Jerry, and Ronnie Thomas; and sister Betty Jones. Kenneth leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Rupp Funeral Home, 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, with Rev. Larry Detruf officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Monroe. Military honors will be under the auspices of VFW Post 1138, Monroe.
Kenneth’s warmth, generosity, and zest for life will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
