March 21, 1948 – May 13, 2024

Kay Francis Braden Croley, 76, of Monroe passed away unexpectedly in her home surrounded by loved ones on May 13, 2024.

Born March 21, 1948, to Clarence and Opal (Keck) Walker in Tazewell, Tennessee. Kay was one of five children. She married Roy Braden on October 24, 1965. Together they had two children Roy Lynn and Tamera (Tami). Unfortunately, her husband Roy passed away on June 11, 1990.

In 1996, she married Richard (Jake) Croley who preceded her in death on April 22, 2011.

Kay worked at various nursing homes and home care facilities. She then worked at Hi-Lite Supermarket, where she was manager of the deli department until her retirement.

She was a long-time member of True Gospel Missionary Baptist Church. She volunteered at vacation bible school and was in charge of the crafts.

Outside of her work and volunteer activities she loved to work in her yard. She loved cooking especially chicken and dumplings and apple turnovers.

Kay was described as patient and enjoyed being at home. Kay will be remembered for her kind heart and her love for her family. She touched the lives of all who knew her and will be deeply missed.

Kay is survived by her mother Opal Walker, two children Roy Lynn (Dawn) Braden and Tami (James) Strimpel, a sister, Sandra Elaine (Dennis) Metzger, and a brother, Ryan Keith (Adrienne) Walker. She also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Braden, Nathan (Cassie) Fletcher, Heather (Andy) Thurman, and Holly Fletcher, as well as six great-grandchildren.

Sadly, Kay is preceded in death by her father, her first husband Roy and second husband Richard, and two brothers: Jackie and Michael.

Family and friends are invited to Rupp Funeral home to celebrate her life. Visitation is from 1:30 PM to 7 PM on Sunday, May 19, 2024. A service will be held Monday, May 20, 2024, at 11 AM at the funeral home. Pastor Roy Southerland will officiate. A burial at Roselawn Memorial Park will follow.
