K.D. Brewer passed away on Friday, September 22nd, 2023, in the care of Hospice of NW Ohio. He succumb to injuries suffered in a fall two weeks before. He was 94 years old.
K.D. was born on a farm in Aberdeen, Mississippi on August 20th,1929. He spent his youth in Mississippi and enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 16. He deployed to Japan and Southeast Asia on occupation duty following the end of WW2. He saw combat in Korea before he returned home. K.D. returned to Mississippi and graduated from High School in Aberdeen where he was an outstanding football player. He remained in the Army Reserve where he completed his service in the Army. K.D. moved to Beloit, Wisconsin for work after the war. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, Joan Stickler. They were married in 1950 in Beloit. The military was his calling, so K.D. re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He spent the next 20 years in the Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant. His service took him and his family to Okinawa, Washington, Missouri, and Michigan. His last assignment was in Monroe as the local Air Force Recruiter. He retired from the service in 1970, where he then transitioned into the skilled trades as a Pipefitter. K.D. was an avid golfer, often playing 3 times every week into his 90’s. He recorded six (6) holes-in-one during his golfing career. He called the Dundee Golf Club home and enjoyed spending time there with the Flynn family and his golf crew. He was Post Commander of the VFW in Monroe for many years.
K.D. and Joan had two children. Pam (deceased) and Kevin of San Clemente, CA. K.D. and Joan were married for 26 years until her passing on Christmas Eve in 1975. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan, daughter Pam, brother Dewey Bo Brewer, sister Kitty Okas, and his parents Dewey and Maudine Brewer. He is survived by his son Kevin and grandson Nathan Brewer of Maybee, MI.. K.D. lived for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren in Michigan and California.
