Judy A. Newsome, age 65 of Carleton, passed away Friday October 20, 2023 at the University of Michigan Hospital after a courageous, hard fought 5 year battle with lung cancer.

Judy was born October 12, 1958 in Monroe, MI to the late Vincent and Norma (Reisig) Gillenkirk. She would go on to meet and marry the love of her life, James Newsome, on November 4, 1994. The two of them would spend 28 loving years together.

Judy was proud to have earned her Insurance Agent License and worked as an Insurance Agent for many years. In addition to this, she was also a Nurse’s Aide and homemaker. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling and spending time with her family and friends. Although Judy never had any children of her own, after her brother and sister-in-law passed she raised her 2 nieces as if they were her own.

To cherish her memory, Judy leaves her loving husband, James; nieces: Lynette (Matthew) Foster and Christine Gillenkirk; brothers: Roger (Kelley), Steven (Donna), and V. Lee Gillenkirk; sisters: Deanna (Dennis) Sobocienski and Nancy (Leonard) VanDaele; and many other nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may gather from 1-3pm on Sunday October 29, 2023 at Rupp Funeral Home, where a Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at the conclusion of the gathering at 3pm. Rev. Larry Detruf will officiate. In accordance with Judy’s wishes, cremation has occurred.
