Joseph G. Koszegi
November 25, 1935 – May 24, 2022
Joseph G. Koszegi, age 86 of Monroe, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehab.
Born November 25, 1935, in Monroe, Joseph was the son of the late George and Mary (Rohan) Koszegi. After graduating from Monroe High School in 1953, Joseph fought for his country in the United States Army 47th infantry from 1957 to 1959. Upon returning home from the army, Joseph began working for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years. He worked for 29 years at the Monroe Post Office and then was promoted to Postmaster at the Carleton Post Office for his last three years, retiring on January 2, 1993. Joseph then went to work for State Farm Insurance for 10 years in the office of the late Michael Hennig.
On April 20, 1963, Joseph married the love of his life, Nancy Moss, at St. Clement Church in Toledo, Ohio. They raised a family of two children and spent over 59 wonderful years together.
Joseph was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where he was a Cantor in both the Sunday Choir and Resurrection Choir. Joseph was also an honorary life member of the Monroe Knights of Columbus #1266 and a member of Frenchtown Senior Citizens Center.
He enjoyed going camping with his family and friends in his camper that he owned for 40 years. They visited many National Parks throughout the United States.
To cherish his memory, Joseph leaves his loving wife, Nancy; two children, Gregory M. (Gail) Koszegi of Monroe and Laura M. Burkhart of Belleville; three grandchildren: William Koszegi, Gage Burkhart, and Hayley Koszegi; and three great-grandchildren: Aiden, Landen, and Zayden.
In addition to his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by two brothers, George and John; two sisters, Mary Vacek and Margaret Cousino; and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Koszegi.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Rupp Funeral Home from 2:00 to 8:00 pm, with a rosary beginning at 6:00 pm. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 28, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Joseph will lie instate at 10:00 am with a mass starting at 11:00 am. Officiating is Fr. David Burgard. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
