Jean Marie Shelley, age 88 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 1, 2021 at her daughter’s home under hospice care.

Born November 21, 1932 in Bellevue, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Lilah (Dick) Kegerreis. Jean graduated from Bellevue High School in 1950 and went on to receive her cadet teaching certificate from Bowling Green State University in 1959.

Jean was a substitute teacher for Monroe County Public Schools for many years. After teaching, she went on to be a bookkeeper for Monroe Accounting. Jean worked as a bookkeeper for 13 years before retiring in 1989.

Jean married Norman Shelley on November 29, 1952 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Bellevue, OH. Jean and Norm moved to the Monroe area in 1964. They raised a family of six children and spent over 62 years together before Norm's passing in 2014.

Beloved mother of Carol (William) Geal, Susan (Robert) Starr, Linda (Vern) Wells, Raymond Shelley, and Betty (Monte) Servey. Loving grandmother of William (Tricia) Geal, Bradley (Sarah) Geal, Brian Geal, John (Maggie) Starr, Katelyn (Ellex) Phillips, Marie (Eric) Stiegel, Emily (Craig) Ringbloom, Sharlene Haughton, and Mark Servey. Great-grandmother of 12.

Besides her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her husband: Norman Shelley; one daughter: Darlene Smith, and brother: Donald (Maggie) Kegerreis.

In accordance with Jean's wishes, cremation has taken place with no services at this time. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle.
