Jean M. Falkenberg

Jean Marie Falkenberg, age 88 of Monroe, passed away on September 8, 2023, at ProMedica Regional Hospital of Monroe, with her family by her side.

Born July 26, 1935 in Monroe. She was one of six children of the late Carl and Marie (Coutcher) Kipf. Jean graduated from Monroe High School in 1953. She later continued her education at Monroe Community College.

Jean met and married the love of her life: Dean Falkenberg Sr. on January 15, 1955, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church of Monroe. They raised a family of three children and spent over 47 wonderful years together before Dean sadly passed away in 2002.

Jean worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company as a Supervisor for 20 years. She then worked for the State of Michigan as a Secretary of Director for another 20 years before retiring. Jean was a long-time member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.

In her younger years, Jean used to go bowling. In her free time, she liked to go with her special niece: Mary Alice Miller on casino trips. Jean enjoyed going out to eat, crocheting, and playing card games. She’ll be remembered as the fun grandma- who liked to always have a great time with her grandchildren. Jean will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Beloved mother of Dean (Debbie) Falkenberg Jr. and Jeffery (Martha) Falkenberg. Loving grandmother of Dean Falkenberg III, Andrea (Lorrie) D’Arpini, Melissa (Jordan) Smith, Nicole (Carlos Jr.) Ruvalcaba, Brooke (Trevor) Hall, Garrett Redli, and Cole Redli. Great grandmother of Emma, Edward, Logan, Lane, Skylar, Alexa, Kenndy, Maggie, Axel, and one on the way: Harlow. Dear sister of Clayton Kipf, Jimmy Kipf, Mary Lou (Sam) Kostenko, and Judy (Greg) Baumiller.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by husband: Dean Falkenberg Sr., daughter: Kristen (Falkenberg) Redli; and sister: Margaret (Kipf) Rubin.

Everyone is invited to a visitation on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Rupp Funeral Home from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church of Monroe. Jean will lie instate at 10 am with the funeral service at 11 am. Officiating is Pastor Lee Cullen. Burial will follow to Gethsemane Cemetery. 

Memorial donations in honor of Jean are suggested to Holy Ghost Lutheran Schools or to the Monroe County Relay for Life.
