Janice L. Barker
May 18, 1934 – March 1, 2024
Janice “Jan” Lou Barker, age 89 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Brookdale Senior Living of Monroe.
Born May 18, 1934, in Monroe. She was one of three daughters of the late George and Margaret Vladu. After graduating High School, Jan met and married the love of her life: Jack “Moe” Barker on November 5, 1955, in Toledo, Ohio. They raised a family of two children and spent over 64 years together before Moe sadly passed away in 2019.
Jan and Moe were the owners of Barker’s Auction Company for around 50 years serving Monroe County. So, collecting antiques was just in her nature, and she had plenty. In her free time, she took part in a Card Club each month with friends. Jan enjoyed gardening her flower beds and always made sure the yard was in immaculate shape. She also liked to go on casino trips for fun to play the slot machines. Jan will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.
Beloved mother of Bill Barker and Cheri (Tim) Barker-Wylie. Loving grandmother of Katy Barker and Bill Scheich. Dear sister of Sandy (Larry) Gaw.
In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by husband: Moe Barker; and sister: Barb Wurster.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Rupp Funeral Home from 10 am to 2 pm. A funeral service will conclude viewing starting at 2 pm. Pastor Philip Wylie will officiate. Entombment will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Jan are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
