Janet Hellen Cooley
April 24, 1942 – October 7, 2024
Janet Hellen Cooley, age 82 of Monroe, passed away peacefully at 1:56 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2024 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.
Born April 24, 1942, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Bernetta (Snell) Smith. She worked as a nurse aid for several years in the Health Care Field. Janet attended North Monroe Street of God, anchoring a strong Christian foundation. She would begin her day by reading morning dedications. Through the years she enjoyed competitive archery, camping, baking, crocheting, and traveling to competitive dance competitions with her granddaughter. Janet loved to listen to Bob Seger and she traveled to experience the Christian band “Odyssey Boys” in concert regularly.
Janet’s kindness brought joy to all that knew her. Through her thoughtful craft she demonstrated the power of kindness by gifting local hospitals with handmade crocheted infant hats to nourish our community. She could be found frequently playing the piano in the dining area of Fountain View or in the Meadowview Wing surrounded by inspiring friends known as the Golden Girls.
To cherish her memory, Janet leaves five children: Bonnie Moore, Mark Cooley, Brian (Linda) Cooley, Chad (Robin) Cooley, and Renae Caddell; one sister, Joyce Dahl; eleven grandchildren: Jason (Jen) Cooley, Kyna (Kyle) Banks, Breanna Miller, Devon (Ashlyn) Roe, Benjamin (Sara) Roe, Jeffrey Cooley, Melissa Cooley, Olivia Moore, Jalun Caddell, Jalin Caddell, and Javon Caddell; and twelve great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Donald Cooley, three siblings, and three grandchildren.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and no services are currently scheduled.
Memorial contributions in Janet’s memory are suggested to North Monroe Street Church of God.
