James “Jim” F. Beck

James “Jim” Frederick Beck, age 79 of Monroe, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Brighton.

Born June 11, 1943 in Monroe, MI he was one of five children to the late Lester and Dorothy (Glanzman) Beck. Jim graduated from Monroe High School in 1962. Jim met and married the love of his life: Janet Gonyea on October 9, 1971, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Rockwood. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past fall. In their younger years, they enjoyed activities with family and friends and maintaining their large garden. Every year Jim would help harvest and Janet would can and preserve their vegetables. Sadly, Janet passed away February 21, 2022.

Jim worked for Premier Industries as a machinist for over 34 years, retiring in 2002. He was a volunteer for the Frenchtown Township Fire Department for many years. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking his dogs, and attending Michigan football tailgates. Jim also belonged to the SE Michigan Antique Tractor Club, and participated in their annual tractor baseball tournament. Above all else, Jim loved spending time with his family and friends. Jim was a man of the Christian faith. He was a long time member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church and served as an usher there for many years.

Loving father of Jason (Amber) Beck, Jerome (Heather) Beck, and Janella (Adam) Poch. Dearest grandfather of Collin Beck, Rylie Beck, Elias Beck, Kaylee Poch, and Alyssa Poch. Dear brother of Robert (the late Carmel) Beck and Phyllis (the late Clayton) Hoppert. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by siblings Esther (the late Robert) Knegendorf and Lela (Robert) Naegele.

Everyone is invited to a visitation on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Rupp Funeral Home from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. Jim will lie in state at 10 am with the funeral service celebrating his life starting at 11 am. Officiating is Rev. Lee Cullen, Pastor of the church. Burial will follow immediately after the luncheon, meeting at Whiteford Union Cemetery at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Jim’s memory be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran Church or the American Diabetes Association.
