James Dallas “Jim” Jones

James Dallas “Jim” Jones, age 92 of Monroe, passed away at 4:02 a.m. Friday, November 29, 2024, at Brookdale Senior Living.
Born November 15, 1932, in Lafollette, Tennessee, he is the son of the late Levi and Georgia Myrtle (Goins) Jones. Jim moved to Monroe in 1944, meeting his beloved wife, Velma Dunsmore, a short time later. The two would marry on August 8, 1953, at Monroe Missionary Baptist Church. Sadly, after sixty-eight years of marriage she preceded in him in death on July 12, 2021. Jim served his county honorably in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1954. He worked as a Die Setter for Ford Motor Company’s Woodhaven Stamping Plant for thirty-two years, retiring in 1997.
Jim was a longtime member of U.A.W. Local 387, Woodhaven. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, collecting antique items, and classic cars. Jim also loved the time he spent traveling the United States and was a dedicated student of the American Civil War. Most of all, Jim cherished being a devoted husband, dad, father-in-law, grandpa, and grandpa Jimmie to his family.
To cherish his memory, Jim leaves one daughter, Deborah (John) McGovern of Monroe; one brother, Johnnie (Martha) Jones of Monroe; one sister, Barbara Daniel of Knoxville, Tennessee; three half-brothers: Gary, Tom, and David Jones; one sister-in-law, Judy Dunsmore of Monroe; two grandchildren, Kaylynn (Benjamin) Schreiber of Rockwood and Garrett (Lauren) McGovern of Monroe; and six great-grandchildren: Breanne, Delilah, Ainsley, Benjamin, Alice, and Leo.
In addition to his wife and parents, Jim was preceded in death by one sister, Georgia Graves.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Rupp Funeral Home, 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161 where services celebrating his life will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. Rev. Roy Southerland, pastor of Lambertville Community Church will officiate. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Military honors will be under the auspices of VFW Post 1138, Monroe.
