Hoy Hatfield Obituary

Hoy Lee Hatfield

February 9, 1947 – October 16, 2024

Hoy Lee Hatfield, age 77 of Monroe, passed away unexpectedly at 4:59 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in his home.

Born February 9, 1947, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Tilmon and Bertha (Davis) Hatfield. Hoy moved to Monroe in 1969 to look for work in the automotive manufacturing industry. Finding work with Crysler Corporation shortly after coming to Monroe, he would work at their Trenton plant for eight years. Hoy married Mary Alice Bomia in Monroe on July 17, 1971. Sadly, she preceded him in death in January of 2010. The two lived for more than twenty years in Arizona, where Hoy worked in the construction industry. He and his wife would move back to Monroe in 2007. Hoy finished out his working life as a truck driver until his retirement. He was a proud member of the Detroit Teamsters Union.

Hoy was an avid classic Country Music lover and skilled musician. He and his caring friend and companion for more than fifteen years, Jan, started a band named the Country Classics, playing the guitar and was also the lead vocalist. In addition to music, he enjoyed fishing and playing bingo. Hoy was a simple man, who enjoyed the simple things in life, consistent with his southern upbringing.

To cherish his memory, Hoy leaves one son, Dwayne (Penny) Eads of Karnersville, North Carolina; companion, Jan Knight of Monroe; sisters-in-law, Virginia (Roy) Hamrick and Angela (Harold) Russeau; brother-in-law, Dennis Bomia; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and spouse, Hoy was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Ansel and three sisters: Edna Momhon, Effie Shackford, and Retha Hatfield.

Friends and family may visit from 1 p.m. until services celebrating his life beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Rupp Funeral Home, 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161.
