Helen “Jo” Muishisky

Helen “Jo” Muishisky, age 92, of Monroe, passed away peacefully at 11:53 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Hampton Manor, Dundee. She had been in declining health for seven months.

Born March 30, 1932, in Gibson Station, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Matt Hicks and Lucy (Liford) Mabe. Jo married Stephen Muishisky in Lima, Ohio, on June 27, 1959. Sadly, he preceded her in death on May 19, 1979.

Jo was the matriarch of the family as “Mom” to Linda, Tammy, and Timmy; “Granny” to Jodi and Sarah; “Great Granny” to Brandon, Brooke, Connor, and Cayden; and “Aunt Jo” to her beloved nephew Jimmy (Dr. James Venable). She also had many other cherished children that called her Grandma Jo.

A lifelong homemaker, she enjoyed sewing and quilting; often making dresses and costumes for the young ladies in her family. Jo appreciated a good romance novel, soap operas, and loved listening to country music, most notably Doug Stone, Conway Twitty, and George Strait.

To cherish her memory, Jo leaves one daughter, Tammy (Herbert) Yount of Monroe; two grandchildren, Jodi (Steven) Barker and Sarah (Christian) Boden; and four great-grandchildren: Brandon (Samantha) Barker, Brooke Barker, Connor Boden, and Cayden Boden.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Linda Hicks and Timothy Muishisky; two siblings, Flora “Jane” Venable and Bobbie Hurst; as well as several half and step-siblings.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Rupp Funeral Home, 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161, where services celebrating her life will begin at 6:00 p.m. Rev. Larry Detruf will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jo’s memory are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
