Gwendolyn Sue St. Bernard (Baldwin)
January 10, 1949 – February 22, 2026
Gwendolyn “Gwen” Baldwin St. Bernard, age 77 of Denver, formerly of Erie, MI, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at her daughter’s residence, surrounded by family.
Gwen was born on January 10, 1949, in Midlesboro, KY, to the late John Archie and Anna (Treadway) Baldwin. Gwen was a devoted member of Grape Missionary Church and worked as a custodian for Erie Mason School, later retiring from Laprad Home Care.
Gwen married the love of her life, Edward “Cal” St. Bernard, on July 8, 1965, in Tazwell, TN, and together they made their home in Michigan. They were blessed with four children, Shelly, Carrie, Edward, and Jessica. Gwen was a devoted mother and grandmother and her greatest joy was cooking for her family; nobody ever left the table hungry. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially watching her favorite shows like The Andy Griffith Show and Leave it to Beaver, and always enjoyed a good murder mystery show. Spring was her favorite season. Gwen loved hearing the birds sing in the mornings and her yard was filled with blooming flowers like daffodils and tulips.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cal St. Bernard; and two brothers, Larry and Garry Baldwin.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Shelly (Mark) Opfermann of LaSalle, MI, Carrie (Mike) Castellese of Monroe, MI, Edward (Karen) St. Bernard II of Ida, MI, and Jessica (Sean) Franklin of Denver, NC; grandchildren, Christopher Opfermann, Christina Hehl, Andrew Opfermann, Devin St. Bernard, Anthony Castellese, Joshua Opfermann, Morgan St. Bernard, Edward St. Bernard III, Kayleigh Opfermann, Noah Franklin, Emma Franklin, and Caden Franklin; 15 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Aleene Bunch of Monroe, MI, and Annette Worley of LaSalle, MI.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Rupp Funeral Home on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 2 until 7 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Grape Missionary Baptist Church, starting at 11 am. Officiating is Pastor Bobby Smith. Burial will follow to LaSalle Township Cemetery.
Memorial donations in honor of Gwen are suggested to Grape Missionary Baptist Church.
