Gregory "Greg" George Jarrait, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on March 18, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on October 27, 1942, in Monroe, Michigan, Greg was a lifelong resident of his beloved hometown.
Greg was a proud graduate of Catholic Central, class of 1961, and a lifelong parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. It was there, on May 4, 1961, that he married the love of his life, Rita M. Venia, with whom he shared sixty-two wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2025.
After graduating, Greg served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966. Following his service, he embarked on a dedicated career as an elevator technician, working for forty-one years. Most recently at Toledo Elevator, retiring in 2001. Known for his ability to fix anything, Greg was a man of many talents and could spark a conversation with anyone he met.
Greg had a passion for travel, often exploring his beloved home state of Michigan with his wife and family. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a proud and devoted husband and cherished his loving wife, Rita.
Greg is preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret (Balla) Jarrait; his beloved wife, Rita; and his brother-in-law, Richard Venia.
To cherish his memory Greg leaves behind a loving family, including his four children: Christopher (Patti) Jarrait, Ross (Marcie) Jarrait, Mark (Sue) Jarrait, and Leigh Ann Parrack, all of Monroe; his sisters: Andrea (Daniel) Marino, Beverly Laney, and Christine Jarrait, also of Monroe; eight grandchildren: Jessica (Patrick) McMahon, Trevor (Richard Klauss) Jarrait, Samantha Jarrait, Hayley Jarrait, Collin Jarrait, Alec Jarrait, Aleigha Parrack, and Liliana Parrack; great-grandchildren: Finnegan, Ailbe, Brigid, and Wyatt. He is also survived by a close, lifelong friend, Don Seitz, and sisters-in-law, Ann Duffy and Sally Venia.
Family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Rupp Funeral Home, located at 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161. Greg will lie in state at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Monroe, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. Kishore Battu, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe. Military honors will be under the auspices of V.F.W. Post 1138 Monroe.
Greg's warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love and service will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
