Gregory G. Calkins

Gregory Gerard Calkins, age 62 of Carleton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 10, 2021.

Born October 13, 1958 in Monroe. He was one of eight children of the late Edgar and Virginia (Leonard) Calkins. He attended Monroe High School. Later he received his GED at Orchard Center High School in Monroe County.

Greg was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Carleton now known as Divine Grace Parish. Greg spent a lot of time doing volunteer work at Mercy Memorial Hospital as well as the Frenchtown Fire Department.

As a young boy, Greg spent his winter ice skating, sledding, and building snow forts with his brothers, sisters, cousins, and neighbors. Greg always had a great love of trains and was an avid collector.  Greg was very artistic as well and enjoyed drawing and painting. Playing the card game Uno with family was one of Greg's favorite things to do.  Recently, Greg's passion was riding his mini bike. 

Most importantly, he will be remembered for his great sense of humor and harassing anyone he knew. Greg always made everyone around him laugh. He had a big heart and gave little gifts or trinkets to many of his family members.

Greg will be greatly missed by his family. He is the beloved brother of Kathy (Gene) Staelgraeve, Russell (Linda) Calkins, Kenneth Calkins, Mark Calkins, Jeanne (Ron) Riley, Jim Calkins, and Veronica (Wayne) Wilkins. Loving uncle of 19 nieces and nephews & 29 great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by a sister in law: Sharon Calkins and brother in law: Joe Richardville.

Everyone is invited to a visitation on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home from 1:30 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Divine Grace Church (formerly St. Patricks Catholic Church of Carleton).Greg will lie instate at 10 am with a funeral mass at 11 am. Officiating is Fr. Mike Woroniewicz. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Greg is suggested to the Monroe Humane Society.
