George Albert DeClercq

George Albert DeClercq, age 94, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026, at 3:15 p.m. at Fountain View of Monroe, surrounded by family and friends.

Born on June 21, 1932, in Dundee, Michigan, George was the son of the late Albert DeClercq and Mary Simaeys. He was united in marriage to Connie J. Wilson on June 13, 1987, in Findlay, Ohio. Connie preceded him in death in 2010.

George proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he was employed by the Monroe County Road Commission, where he dedicated 37 years of faithful service before retiring.

A lifelong resident of the Dundee area, George attended Dundee Schools. A man of deep faith, he was a past member of Dundee Assembly of God, where he sang and played guitar during services and outings. He taught Sunday School and helped the boy’s youth group know as Royal Rangers.

George loved being outdoors and was an avid bicyclist. He belonged to a bicycle and trike club, where he logged more than forty miles a week, staying active until his health began to decline in April of 2026. He also had a passion for music, playing the piano, harmonica, accordion, and several string instruments. He was a member of a band that played at festivals and birthdays at the senior center. Above all, George cherished his family. He also enjoyed spending Wednesdays playing Euchre with friends at the Monroe Senior Center.

George is survived by his sons, Robert A. DeClercq of Monroe and George M. DeClercq of Dundee; daughters, Jeannine B. Cogar of El Dorado, Kansas, and Georgina A. DeClercq of Dundee; as well as many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Not to forgot his beloved cat, Goldie. 

In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph A. DeClercq; and sisters, Margaret Howerton and Virginia Jaworski.

Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Rupp Funeral Home, 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161. Memorial services celebrating his life will be held at 12:00 noon, with inurnment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe, where military honors will be accorded.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe Senior Center or to the V.F.W. Post 1138, Monroe.

George will be remembered for his steadfast faith, quiet strength, humble nature, unwavering work ethic, and the love he shared with his family, friends, and community. His life was one of service, devotion, and kindness, and his memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
