George R. Butler, Sr.
November 12, 1927 – February 25, 2021
George Butler, Sr., of Monroe, MI, passed in peace at the age of 93, on Feb. 25. He is survived by Phyllis Scott-Butler, his adored wife of 71 years. He took silent pride in serving our country as a paratrooper in WWII.
Loving father of son, George Jr. (Colleen) Butler and daughters Lassie (Jim) Webster and Darlene Taig. The proudest grandfather of five generations: five grandsons and two granddaughters. Three great grandsons and three great granddaughters. One great-great grandson. Preceded in death by son-in-law Larry Taig.
George will be forever remembered by his wife, family, and friends as one of the best of men. He excelled at growing almost any produce and was found outside with his trees and garden more than in his house. He took extreme pride in his family and was a believer in a strong work ethic and discipline. Machinist and active union member for Great Lakes Steel, an orchardist, and his family’s master gardener - He was a rare combination of someone who worked harder than anyone we know, had a cheeky sense of humor, and yet had a firm understanding of what was important – the simplicity of living life with the ones you love.
