Genevieve M. Bourbina

March 10, 1924 – September 10, 2022

Genevieve (Jenny) Marie Bourbina, a lifelong resident of Monroe Michigan who currently resided in Raleigh NC died peacefully on Sept 10, 2022 at Hillside Nursing Home in Wake Forest NC.  Family members were able to visit, and she received the Anointing of the Sick. Jenny will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Jenny was born March 10, 1924, to Mose and Mabel Nadeau of Monroe Michigan.   Jenny was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard Anthony Bourbina whom she married on October 10, 1945. She was also preceded in death by her parents Mose and Mabel Nadeau, brothers Joe (Lillian) Nadeau, Mose (Jean) Nadeau, Jim (Millie) Nadeau and Roland (Eula) Nadeau, sisters Marguerite (William) Alexander, Mabel (Henry) Bourbina and Mary (Robert) Bourbina.

Jenny was part of a family of eight in which three of the girls married a Bourbina (from the same family) and one of the boy’s also married a Bourbina girl, so it was a very close-knit family. Many happy holiday celebrations and first cousins were a large part of the family. Jenny loved playing cards with her family.  She also enjoyed traveling with her daughter, her sister Mary (and Bob) and coming to North Carolina to visit her family there.

Jenny grew up in Monroe and was very fond of her life there. For Jenny there was no place like Monroe. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church into her late 80’s, she was part of the Woman’s Altar Society and spent many an hour cleaning the church attending church events and volunteering for funerals, soup lunches, the county fair etc. She also volunteered at Mercy Memorial Hospital for 22 years working in the Gift Shop and transporting patients. She loved school and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and was very proud of being Salutatorian of her class.

Jenny had two children Richard Joseph (married to Jane Ann Kleinsmith Bourbina) of Raleigh NC and Anne Mary Bourbina (married to David Barnabo) of Redford MI.   She had three grandchildren: Rachel Rosenthal of Greensboro NC, whom she raised; Jennifer Shannon of Raleigh NC and Mark Bourbina of Durham NC.   She had seven great-grandchildren.  Nate Wood; Niles, Luca, and Eliana Rosenthal; Elisabeth and Claire Shannon; and Allison and Dylan Bourbina.  

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rupps Funeral Home, Monroe Mi with a visitation planned on Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 6-8 PM at Rupps and the Funeral Mass to held at St. Mary’s church on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 11 AM with a brief visitation one hour prior to the service.
