Gary was born December 12, 1950 in Monroe, MI to the late William Turner and Jacqueline VanDenBerghe. Gary would leave high school and go fight for his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. Upon being honorably discharged, Gary would return home to civilian life and begin a career as a Construction Laborer Foreman in the Local 499. Gary will be remembered as an amazing man who had a servants heart. Gary was always willing to lend a helping hand to others and open his home to those who were in need. Gary always made those he met feel welcomed and appreciated and everybody who knew him were always amazed by his generosity and compassionate nature.
In his spare time, Gary loved traveling to state parks with Tamara and the kids. He loved going to Cedar Point, Sterling State Park, Yogi Bear Park, and Stoney State Parks. Gary also enjoyed trying his luck at the local casinos wherever he and Tamara traveled. He loved collecting coins of various value from all over the world.
Above all else, Gary loved spending time with family and friends, particularly his grandchildren in which he was affectionately known as “Papa.” He always went out of his way to make sure the holidays were special for his friends and family with his generosity and kind heart.
