Gary Henry Turner, age 70 of Monroe, passed away the morning of Saturday May 8, 2021 in his home.

Gary was born December 12, 1950 in Monroe, MI to the late William Turner and Jacqueline VanDenBerghe. Gary would leave high school and go fight for his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. Upon being honorably discharged, Gary would return home to civilian life and begin a career as a Construction Laborer Foreman in the Local 499. He would go on to meet and marry the love of his life, Tamara Bolicki in 1985. Sadly, Tamara passed away March 11, 2017. Upon retiring from the union in 2003, Gary remained on the Local 499 Retiree Council.

Gary will be remembered as an amazing man who had a servants heart.  Gary was always willing to lend a helping hand to others and open his home to those who were in need.  Gary always made those he met feel welcomed and appreciated and everybody who knew him were always amazed by his generosity and compassionate nature.

In his spare time, Gary loved traveling to state parks with Tamara and the kids.  He loved going to Cedar Point, Sterling State Park, Yogi Bear Park, and Stoney State Parks. Gary also enjoyed trying his luck at the local casinos wherever he and Tamara traveled. He loved collecting coins of various value from all over the world.

Above all else, Gary loved spending time with family and friends, particularly his grandchildren in which he was affectionately known as “Papa.”  He always went out of his way to make sure the holidays were special for his friends and family with his generosity and kind heart.

Family and friends may visit from 11-2pm on Thursday May 13, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home, where a celebration of Gary’s life will be held at 2pm. Rev. Roy Southerland will officiate. Entombment will immediately follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.

To cherish his memory, Gary leaves his mother, Jacqueline Hackert; son, Ryan (Karie) Turner; daughter, Kim (Dave) Rush; two brothers: Richard (Charlene) Turner and Ron (Donna) Turner; brother-in-law, Dave Mason; six grandchildren: Thad, Chad, Meegan, Riley, Drake, and Gaige; and three great grandchildren.

Along with his father, Gary is also preceded in death by two sons, Thad and James Turner; daughter, Karie Carr; and sister, Chyril Mason.
