Eugene Albert Bunge

July 27, 1929 – April 17, 2022

Eugene “Gene” Albert Bunge, age 92, of Summerfield, FL, formally of Monroe, MI passed away and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, at the Ocala Regional Hospital in Ocala, FL. 

Gene was born on July 27, 1929, to the late Albert and Ethel (Young) Bunge in Ida, MI.  He was the 5th of 6 children, raised by his Uncle Fred and Aunt Rose in Ida, MI due to parental illness. Gene was baptized and confirmed at East Immanuel Lutheran Church.   He attended Ida schools thru the 8th grade when he left to work on the family farm.  Gene met and married the love of his life Carol J Waldecker on July 19, 1948.  He went on to work for 33 years as a painter in the maintenance department at Chrysler retiring in December 1986.  He enjoyed going to the Flat Rock and Toledo Speedway races and watching his family race.  He and Carol moved to Summerfield, FL after his retirement.  He always enjoyed going to Biloxi, MS with his wife to the Imperial Palace Casino.

Gene was proceeded in death by his wife Carol, children Eugene Jr., Diane, stillborn baby, & Ronald. Siblings Hazel, Herman, Chester, Lois & Helen.

Gene is survived by sons Douglas (Dianna Sorrell) Bunge of Beverly Hills, FL, Steve (Julie) Bunge of Ida, MI, Grandchildren Amie (Nathan) Beard, Anastasia Luhellier, Michael (Mackenzie) Bunge, Christopher Bunge, Lori (Lyn) Hall, & Scot Bunge, 13 Great Grandchildren, 7 Great-Great Grandchildren, special relatives Brad Luhellier and Wayne Waldecker.

Family and Friends may visit on Monday, April 25, 2022, at Rupp Funeral Home from 2pm to 8pm. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 11 am at Rupp with Rev. Kenneth Bunge of First Lutheran Church in Lufkin, TX, officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Rupp Funeral Home Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ruppfuneralhome/) and will be accessible just before the service begins. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle, MI immediately following the service.
