Eleanor Frances (Schaller) Mruzek

Eleanor Frances (Schaller) Mruzek RN passed away peacefully on May 19, 2021. Ellie was born on April 19, 1933 in River Rouge, MI. Eleanor was married to Joseph Thomas Mruzek (deceased) on October 13, 1956 and had four sons: Michael (Joanne), Paul (deceased), David (Lisa) and Daniel (Maria). Eleanor was a 1954 graduate of the Mercy School of Nursing, Detroit, MI. In later life, Eleanor married Chester Pendred.
Eleanor was an early advocate of Wellness in Healthcare. She created a well known puppet character “Nurse Rosy” that was a teaching vehicle to introduce children to nutrition, hygiene, and other good health habits. Eleanor also was a frequent contributor of human interest stories to the Monroe Evening News, with primary topics of country living, human nature and child rearing. Eleanor was a co-founder of Gabby’s Ladder Grief Center and had been certified in trauma and loss facilitation.
The family asks that memorials be made to Gabby’s Ladder of Monroe. The family also wishes to express appreciation for the memory care received at Vibrant Life of Temperance, MI.
Everyone is invited to a visitation on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Monroe. Eleanor will lie in-state at 10:00 am with a funeral mass starting at 11:00 am. Officiating is Fr. David Burgard. Burial will immediately follow at Our Lady of Hope in Brownstown.
