Eleanor Irene Ash
November 8, 1929 – March 3, 2021
Eleanor Irene Ash, age 91 of Monroe, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021.
Born November 8, 1929, in Detroit, she was the daughter of the late John and Amelia Ballish. She graduated from Southwestern High School in 1948 and found work as a secretary. Eleanor went to Detroit Beach with friends and met the love of her life, Clarence J Ash. They married June 18, 1949 in Lincoln Park, MI and would spend over 60 wonderful years together before his passing in 2010. They raised a family of 3 children in Monroe and she worked at Kroger to help support her family. For a short time they moved the family to Eau Gallie Florida where she would work at JC Penny. After 5 years they would move back home to Monroe as she didn’t like to be so far away from her family and friends. Eleanor went on to work at La-Z-Boy in the accounting department for 22 years before retiring in 1990.
With Clarence by her side, they would travel to Alaska, Las Vegas and Europe. They also enjoyed bus trips with the seniors out west and Washington DC as well as many trips to St Petersburg, Florida. Together they would also be on a bowling league at Nortel Lanes.
Eleanor was a long-time member at St. Mary’s Church. She enjoyed spending her free time at the Frenchtown Senior Center where she would play cards. She enjoyed going out to eat with her friends from the senior center and they would take turns hosting each other in their homes for more card playing. Most importantly, Eleanor loved spending quality time with her family.
Beloved mother of Corinne (David) Groch of Temperance, John David (Geraldine) Ash of Monroe, and James Kevin (Debra) Ash of Monroe. Loving grandmother to Jennifer (Matt) Wierman of Dundee, Emily (Kevin) Gerow of Hinsdale, IL, John Ash and Christopher Ash of Monroe, Nicholas Groch of Sarasota FL, and 4 great-grandchildren Mallory, Charlie, Grant Gerow and Jacob Wierman.
In addition to her parents and husband, Eleanor was preceded in death by her brother John Ballish, and sisters Virginia Farris and Cecelia Lee.
Per her wishes she has been cremated and there will be no services. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
