Elaine M. Sweet, age 92, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, April 28, 2022.

Born May 1, 1929 in Newport, Michigan, she was the daughter of Harvey and Frances (Roberts) Reaume. Elaine met the love of her life, Monte Sweet, and on October 2, 1948, they married. Together they raised three children.

Elaine was a devoted homemaker. She enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s school events and athletic events. Elaine also was involved in her church, St. Charles Church, in Newport, helping with funeral dinners and was a member of the Altar Society.

To cherish her memory, Elaine leaves her children; a daughter, Carol (Steve) Brophy, of Saline, Michigan. Two sons: Dave (Sharon) Sweet of Penn Yan, New York, and Tim (Tracey) Sweet of Canton, Michigan. Elaine also has seven grandchildren: Anna Sweet (Nate Salpeter) of Penn Yan, New York; Lisa (Daniel) Ratkov of Saline, Michigan; Kayla (Adam) Cieslinski of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Ryan (Emily) Brophy of Allendale, Michigan; TJ Sweet of Charlotte, North Carolina; Danielle Sweet and Zachary Sweet of Canton, Michigan. Elaine also has one great-granddaughter, Harper Cieslinski. She is also survived by one sister, Shirley Congioloso, of Temperance, Michigan.

Elaine is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Monte; her parents; one brother, Irving Reaume; a son; and a daughter.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at Rupp Funeral Home, from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. Elaine will lie instate at 10:15 am on May 6, 2022, at St. Charles Church in Newport, where a funeral mass celebrating Elaine’s life will begin at 11:15 am. Monsignor Todd Lajiness will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery.
