Edna Manning Obituary

Edna J. Manning

January 13, 1934 - July 20, 2025

Edna Jean Manning, age 91 of Monroe, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at her home under hospice care.

Born January 13, 1934, in Speedwell, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Lillie (Leach) Smith.

Edna met and married the love of her life: Ernest Manning on October 24, 1949 in Middlesboro, Kentucky. They enjoyed completing crosswords puzzles together in their spare time. They raised a family of four children in Monroe. They spent over 62 wonderful years together before Ernest passed away in 2010. Edna was a full-time caregiver to her son, Larry. She was the most attentive and gentle mother towards him. They shared a special relationship throughout his life until he sadly passed in 2021.

Edna was a long-time member of Evergreen Acres Missionary Baptist Church of Monroe.  She started the building fund and donated a jar of pennies as the first donation. Edna enjoyed listening to Gospel music as well as read her bible. She also enjoyed reading the series by Jan Karon, who wrote Christian books. Edna was also an avid fan of the show Dateline.

Most importantly, Edna treasured her family. She loved watching her grandson grow up. Edna was the matriarch of the family and made sure everyone was taken care of before herself. She will be remembered for her sweet southern accent who was so kind, sweet, and generous to everyone she met. Her quick wit, warm sense of humor, and ability to make others laugh left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Edna will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of her loved ones.

Beloved mother of Dennis (Norman McFall) Manning, Pamela (Dean) Katschor, and Regina (Todd Bolton) Manning. Loving grandmother of Ryan Katschor. Also survived by sister-in-laws Kathleen Smith and Lucille Manning and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by husband: Ernest; son: Larry Manning; and siblings: Conley Smith, Juanita Smith, Dorothy Smith, Lonnie Smith, Hobert Smith and Mary Shields.
