Donald “Donway” Liford, age 90, of Dundee, passed away peacefully at his home on November 9, 2024. Don was born on July 21, 1934 in Claiborne County, Tennessee, to Hubert and Ellen (Owen) Liford. Donald was one of 13 children the couple had together.

After graduating high school, Donway enrolled in community college and worked a variety of jobs before joining the Air Force, where he served for 4 years as a HELIO Mechanic. In July of 1963, he married his beloved wife, Joan Burpee. Together, he and Joan raised 2 children, a son and a daughter.

In his later years, Don continued his love of music playing guitar and singing for family and friends. He often wrote lyrics describing life events. Country music was his favorite; he was in a band that was quite popular in Monroe, named “The Nothin’ Yet.” They often played at the Eagles and the Golden Drumstick. Don was also a fair artist and leaves many works behind.  Aside from his music, he loved being outside. It was his happy place. He also liked to exercise and would often play the lottery.

Don will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind his two children, Donald “Donny” (Tami) Liford II, and Kimberley (Kevin) Huber. His memory will be cherished by many family members and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Joan, he was preceded in death by nine of his siblings.  Surviving siblings brother Hubert Jr. (Elouise); sister Susan (Jim) Stump; sister Charlene Olson and brother Danny (Belinda) mourn his loss.
