Donald William Holzinger
October 23, 1929 – January 22, 2022
Donald Holzinger, age 92, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 22 at Wellspring Lutheran Home.
Born October 23, 1929, in Monroe Michigan, Donald was the son of the late William and Eva (Voelker) Holzinger. After graduating from High School Donald went on to serve his country in the United States Army. During his enlistment he was one of the few Soldiers that were present to witness a nuclear explosion in the Las Vegas Desert and was later deployed to Europe.
Donald married Shirley Weis at St. Paul United Methodist Church on June 8, 1957. They spent 55 years together before her passing on April 6, 2012. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Donald made his living as an engineer, working for Dana Corp.
Donald was a quiet and shy and very humble man. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling through the winter months, (bowling well into his 90’ s) and golfing during the summer. He also enjoyed fishing.
To cherish his memory, Donald leaves a nephew, Thomas (Cynthia) Nadeau, and a niece, Sue Nadeau and cousins Janet and Jack Volker.
He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley, his parents, and his sister, Jeanette Nadeau,
Donald will be laid to rest at Toledo Memorial Park on Friday, January 28, 2022, at 1pm. A memorial service in his honor will take place on Saturday, May 7,2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church.
