Dianne Pokrywki Obituary

Dianne M. Pokrywki

August 23, 1944- February 5, 2024

Dianne Pokrywki, age 79, of Novi, Michigan (formally of Monroe, Michigan), died on Monday, February 5, 2024, with her daughter by her side. She was also surrounded with love by many family members in the days preceding her death.

She was born on August 23, 1944, in Monroe, Michigan to Joseph and Mary Jane (Bechberger) DeSloover. Dianne attended the former St. Mary Academy in Monroe, Michigan, and upon graduation, worked for Michigan Bell as a telephone operator. She enjoyed a long career in the telephone industry retiring from AT&T as a manager of administrative personnel. After retiring from AT&T, she enjoyed a second career in retail, working at a specialty gift shop, and at two Hallmark stores, most recently McDevitt's Hallmark in the Laurel Park Mall in Livonia, Michigan.

Dianne enjoyed traveling with her beloved life partner, Bill. They traveled to Florida every other year, and all across the contiguous United States. They even marked the cities they visited with multi-colored pins on a giant map of the United States. She also enjoyed taking trips with her daughter, Dawn, including to Florida, Chicago, and for nine years in a row, day trips to New York City during the Christmas holidays.

For those who knew Dianne, it was a rare occasion to see her without a camera in her hand. She was the unofficial family photographer. She was always sure to send a copy of the pictures she took to each and every person in the photograph. And, and much as people sometimes didn't want to pose for her numerous pictures, they are now forever grateful to have those precious memories she captured. And, the pictures she sent would always be inside of a Hallmark card. As a church friend once said of her, her special ministry was sending cards to help brighten one's day. She was always thinking of others with a card, picture or unique gift, and made friends wherever she went.

Dianne enjoyed reading, especially any book by Mitch Albom. As long as she was able, she made sure to attend every one of his book signings, where she would buy several signed copies to give to family members. She also enjoyed attending plays, from the local community theater to Broadway.

Later in life, she enjoyed painting, playing bingo and making crafts.

Dianne will always be remembered for her generous, kind, loving spirit, and putting others first. We'll always imagine hearing her say, "Okay, time for pictures" one more time. We will miss Dianne every day, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.

In addition to her parents, Dianne is preceded in death by her brother, James DeSloover, who went to Heaven on January 31, 2024; her brother, John DeSloover; her beloved life partner, William "Bill" Hale; Dawn's father, Ronald Pokrywki; and grandson, Bronson Sanders.

Dianne is survived by her daughter, Dawn Pokrywki, her partner, David Meador, David's daughters Stacy Meador, Andrea (Brad) Barath, her "birthday buddy," bonus great-grandson, Landen; daughter Beth (Jeff) Thieman, granddaughters Brittany (Cory) Sanders, Paige (Sly) Castro, great-grandchildren, Aiden, Alysia, Darius, Cullen; her life partner Bill's daughters, Laura Manzo, Linda Daniels, bonus grandsons Christopher and Justin; brother David (Donna) DeSloover, sister Janet (Edsel) Parnell, sister Joan DeSloover, brother Joseph (Joyce) DeSloover, sister Jean Ellison, sister-in-law Laura DeSloover; godson Andrew DeSloover; many nieces and nephews; and extended family members and friends.
