Devin Pilgrim Obituary

Devin A. Pilgrim

April 21, 1974 - March 14, 2022

Devin Aubry Pilgrim, 47, of Monroe, MI, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with cancer on March 14, 2022.

Devin was born on April 21, 1974, in Toledo, Ohio. She was the daughter of Robert (Mickey) and Marilyn (Everson) Duffey. She was the second daughter of four girls, growing up with sisters: Erin, Calley and Caitlin. Devin attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from St. Mary Catholic Central with the Class of 1992. At SMCC she was a four-year member of the swim team and participated in the school musicals.

She continued her education at the University of Dayton and graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Justice from Eastern Michigan University.

Devin met the love of her life, Kevin Pilgrim, when they were counselors at Camp Tawanka. They were married on June 17, 1995, at St. Mary’s Church. For many years, she worked as a substitute teacher for Monroe Public Schools. In recent years, she worked at Promedica Hospital in Monroe as a mental health technician.

Devin was caring, creative and resourceful. She spent countless hours leading Al-Anon meetings and even developed an Alateen group held at Monroe Public Schools. She was active in the performing arts community and especially loved watching her children perform. She was a voracious reader. A favorite pastime was going to the movies with her friends. Kevin and Devin loved camping and traveled to 44 states. Summers were spent at Sleepy Hollows Campground in Port Clinton, Ohio where she loved sitting by the campfire. She called it her “serenity”.

To cherish her memory she leaves her beloved husband, Kevin Pilgrim; daughter, Keagan and two sons, Dustin and Joseph of Monroe; parents; three sisters: Erin Duffey (Edward Broderick) of Havertown, PA, Calley Duffey (Ted Westerlund) of Monroe and Caitlin Duffey (Kevin Abramson) of Ardmore, PA; sister-in-law Karen Pilgrim; and 14 nieces and nephews.

Devin was preceded in death by her in- laws, Herbert and Judith Pilgrim; grandparents, Hillary and Veronica Everson; Robert and Rita Duffey; and uncle, Joel Duffey.

She was a treasured wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Her positivity and resiliency have served as an inspiration to us all.

A celebration of life is planned for a later date. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made to www.ruppfuneralhomeinc.com
