Dennis C. Poet Sr.
April 15, 1957 – September 11, 2023
Dennis Casmier Poet Sr., age 66 of Monroe, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the ProMedica Regional Hospital of Monroe.
Born April 15, 1957 in Romulus. He was one of five children of the late Ralph Poet and Janette Poet Murphy. Dennis attended Romulus High School. Dennis was a truck driver for KC Transportation in Carleton for 19 years.
Dennis met the love of his life: Denise Pluff LaBell at Farmer Charlies Apple Orchard in the fall of 1983 and married on October 5, 1991, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in New Boston, MI. Together they enjoyed photography, antiquing and flea market finds, where they bought and sold treasures. They liked to travel, and even visited 35 lighthouses throughout Michigan. They raised their family and spent 31 married years and were together for a total of 40 wonderful years.
Dennis was an avid outdoorsman and loved to go hunting, fishing and taking nature walks. He was a long-time member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and part of the Lincoln Bowmen Archery Club in Brownstown, MI.
Dennis was very creative and artistic using oil paint and enjoyed wood burning as well. He was a Bob Ross fan and enjoyed watching him paint. Dennis will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his funny personality. He will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of his loved ones.
Beloved husband of Denise Poet. Loving father of Dennis Poet Jr., Danielle (Aaron) Mungar, David LaBell, and Erika (Johnny) Hunt. Dearest grandfather of eight grandchildren. Dear brother of Brenda (Tom) Raney, Mary (Jim) Gerval, and Bobby Poet. Also survived by daughter in law: Melissa Stanley.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by son: Richard Poet; and brother: Lawrence Poet.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Everyone is invited to a memorial gathering on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Rupp Funeral Home from 1:00 -5:00 pm. A memorial service will conclude the night starting at 5 pm. Officiating is Deacon Tracy Esper.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
