David "Dave" Richard Collins

David “Dave” Richard Collins, age 62 of Ida, passed away unexpectedly on October 31, 2024.

Born June 18, 1962 in Detroit, Dave was the son of Richard Collins and Patricia Collins Grugen. He received his degree from the University of Toledo and worked as an engineer at La-Z-Boy and Roush, where he enjoyed designing rides for one of his favorite family vacation spots, Walt Disney World. He married his cherished wife, Rachelle “Shelly” Collins in Monroe on December 6, 1991. He became a volunteer firefighter shortly after, although the fire chief (his father-in-law) did not allow him near any fires.

Most important to Dave were his three girls Kylie, Kaitlin, and Kennedy. He was a girl dad to his core. Dave was an avid Michigan sports fan, although he tried to cheer for Michigan State while Kaitlin and Kennedy were students. More recently, he is also the father of a beloved labradoodle, Murphy, after his girls left the house.

Dave was an outdoor enthusiast, who loved to hunt, fish, e-bike, and boat. In true dad fashion, he was a grill master that enjoyed trying and sharing new recipes with his girls.

Dave is survived by his wife, Shelly Collins; daughters, Kylie, Kaitlin, and Kennedy Collins; sister Karen (Keith) Bollinger; brother-in-law, David (Michelle) Morgan; father, Richard (Linda) Collins; in-laws Roger and Barbara Morgan. He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Collins Grugen.

A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.
