Curtis Alan Bussell

Curtis (Al) Bussell, age 78, of Monroe, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, October 22, 2023.

Born August 5, 1945, in Covington Kentucky, he was the son of the late Curtiss and Elizabeth (Coatney) Bussell. Al graduated from Monroe High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He earned his living for more than thirty years, working in the Papermill industry. In the summer of 1990, Curtis married Sheila Long and together, with their blended families, made their life together.

Al was a member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited and was the President of Indian Trails Association for nearly 30 years. In his spare time, you could find him with his friends fishing on his boat and sipping on a scotch at 601. He was a very social person who enjoyed events and was a big fan of the Fourth of July. Al enjoyed fishing, traveling, boating, and watching the eagle’s fly. He loved his country and all the history behind it.

Al loved and cherished his family, and the time he spent with them meant everything to him. He was loved and will forever be missed by many.

To cherish his memory, Al leaves his loving wife of thirty-three years, Sheila; five children: Curtis Jr. (Sherry) Bussell, Christopher Cupp, Shawn (Jennifer) Cupp, Marty (Tony) Bacarella, and Tiffany (Matthew) Vasey; grandchildren: Lorin Pooley, Cameron Bussell, Ariel Jordan, Darian Bacarella, AnneMarie and Fisher Cupp and Caleb and Joshua Cupp; and siblings: Tony “Roger” (Pam) Bussell, Michael (Kathy) Bussell, and Linda (Tom) Calloway.

Al is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Johnny Stewart and David Bussell; a sister, Wanda Bussell; a grandson, Spencer Bacarella; and his cousin Buck Jennings.

Family and friends may visit at Rupp Funeral Home on Friday, October 27, 2023, from 1 until 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at Rupp Funeral Home on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 12 pm with Pastor Larry Detruf officiating.
