Catherine Jeanette Merriman

Catherine Jeanette Merriman, of Monroe, MI, passed away at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital on May 15, 2025. She was born in Concord, California, on March 7, 1951, to Gene V. and Wilma Lee (Clark) Seals. She grew up in Lodi, California, and graduated from Lodi High School. She went to San Joaquin Delta College, the University of California Davis, and in the early 2000’s attended the administrative assistant program at Monroe County Community College in Monroe, Michigan.
Catherine served in the United States Navy from 1973-1977. She worked as an electronics technician and attained the rank of E3. She received the National Defense Service Medal and received an honorable discharge.
Catherine met Donald Duane Merriman in the Navy, and married him in the British territory of Gibraltar, on December 16, 1976. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was a wonderful cook and baked amazing chocolate chip cookies. She loved gardening, especially her Geraniums, and Hens and Chicks. She was an avid crafter who could do just about anything. She painted, crocheted, knitted, sewed, and did numerous types of needlework. She could really work her magic on a costume, including a very special Hershey’s Kiss costume. She was also very fond of reading mysteries.
Catherine is survived by her daughters, Heather H. Merriman and Blythe D. (Merriman) Burger, both of Monroe; sister, Lori Jean (Dennis) Paz of Stockton, California; niece, Stephanie Paz (Jeff Lasalle) of Cloverdale, CA; great-nephew, Jeffrey Lasalle of Cloverdale, CA; aunt and uncle-in-law, Faye Carol and Earl Ambrose of Sturgis, MI; stepsister-in-law, Carla (Bill) McCarrick of Lansing, MI; and several nieces in Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, who died August 24, 2000; her parents; sister-in-law, Linda (Chuck) Hummell; father and mother-in-law, Albert and Alice Merriman; and stepmother-in-law, Virginia Gordon Merriman.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services. She will be interred at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Catherine’s memory are suggested to the Humane Society of Monroe County (monroe-humane.org) or your local animal shelter.
