Carl William Straub

Carl “Artie” W. Straub, 86 of Maybee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 in his home, with his children at his side.

Born on May 20, 1936, Carl was one of ten children born to the late Carl and Alma (Gehardt) Straub. Carl met and married the love of his life, Margaret A. Schuyler on October 6, 1956 in Maybee. Together they raised 11 children and spent a wonderful 64 years together before her passing on September 21, 2021.

Carl was a farmer all his life. He enjoyed being outdoors in the fields or out in a deer blind hunting. He especially loved being with his dog, Cujo.

To cherish in his memory, Carl leaves behind his children, Lynette (Ray) Gyde, Cindy Ammerman, Marvin Straub, Marie Werstein, Melvin (Juley) Straub, Mark Straub, Joe (Carolee) Straub, and Cliff Straub; a son in law, Dave Balcom; three siblings, Donald Straub, Dale Straub, and Kathleen Franklin; a sister in law, Mary Straub; twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Carl is preceded in death by his children, Debra Balcom, Matthew Straub, and Michael Straub; a son in law, Don Werstein; grandson, Daniel Balcom; and siblings, Richard Straub, Norman Straub, Robert Straub, Kenny Straub, Jimmy Straub, and Mary Jane Spaulding.

Friends and family may visit on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Rupp Funeral Home from 4pm to 8pm and on Sunday, March 5, 2023 from 1pm to 8pm. Carl will lie in state on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Divine Grace Parish, Maybee beginning at 10am until the start of the funeral mass at 11am. Carl will be laid to rest next to his wife at St. Joseph Cemetery, Maybee following the mass. There will be a funeral luncheon following the burial at the Church Hall.
