William Young “Billy” Howard, Jr., age 56, died on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Durham Veterans Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.

Billy was born on December 5, 1968 in Front Royal, Virginia to Betty Harless Howard and the late William Young Howard, Sr. He was a retired infantryman and Staff Sergeant for the United States Army, 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, and baseball in his spare time.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Haithem Alsawalha.

He is survived by his wife, Kristen Smith Howard of Toledo, OH; his mother, Betty Howard of Valley Ridge, Covington; two daughters, Lily Howard of Toledo and Shay Costello of San Antonio, TX; a son, William Young “Trey” Howard III (Ashley) of Delaware, OH; four stepchildren, Laith, Alia, Adam, and Ryan; two sisters, Terri Allen (Danny) of Valley Ridge, Covington, and Ginny Shaw (Nathan) of White Hall Arkansas; a brother, Robert Thomas “Bob” Howard (Candi) of Covington; two grandchildren, Addilyn Howard and Delaney Howard; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Nicely Funeral Home. Cremation will follow. There will be a burial of cremains at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 12:30 pm, where an Honor Guard Service under the auspice of the VFW Post 1138 of Monroe will be held in his honor. Inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
