March 31, 1946 - July 20, 2023

 

Billie Douglas “Doug” Estes, age 77 of Monroe, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital of Ann Arbor.

Born March 31, 1946, in Middlesboro, Kentucky.  He was the loving and devoted son of Fred F. and Lillie H. (Duncan) Estes.  Doug attended Monroe High School and was proud to receive his GED later in life. He also attended Jackson Community College where he earned several specialty welding certifications, he was a welder and had a long career at Dana Corporation in Ecorse, MI.

Doug was a member of the National Rifle Association.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was a Martial Arts enthusiast and in his younger years he was quite proficient in Taekwondo.  Doug had a passion for music and was a self-taught musician learning to play the acoustic guitar by ear.  Other pastimes he enjoyed were bird watching and a love of watching Westerns and horror movies that he passed along to his daughters.

He was known for his sense of humor and was always willing to share his latest dad joke.  Most importantly, Doug loved spending quality time with his family. He was the most loving father, papa and great-papa.  Doug was a very compassionate person and had a huge heart for taking care of others.  He will be deeply missed and cherished by all those who knew him.

Beloved father of Violet (John) Walsh and Rebecca Estes.  Loving grandfather of Ryan & Devon Walsh and Zach & Todd Nadell.  Doting Great grandfather of Bryson Barber and Grace Nadell.  Dear brother of Polly Raymer and Helen Raymer.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by brothers Bob Estes and Johnnie Estes.

In accordance with his wishes, he has been cremated with no funeral services.  Private burial of cremains will take place at Monroe Township Cemetery at a later date.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Rupp Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in his honor may be made to the Humane Society of Monroe or to a charity of donor’s choice.
