Bernadine DiCarlo

Bernadine “Bernie” DiCarlo, age 79 of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at home surrounded by family.
Born January 17, 1946 in Monroe. Bernie was the daughter of the late Clarence and Bonnie (Brooks) Soncrant.
After school, Bernie married the love of her life, Vito DiCarlo Jr., on June 26, 1965 in Monroe. She was a loving homemaker to her husband and her seven children. They always treasured going to Veterans Park to have lunch. Both also loved traveling and going to their cottage in Irish Hills. They spent over 58 wonderful years together until Vito sadly passed away on January 20, 2024.
While raising her kids, Bernie was active and became president of the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) at Lincoln Elementary School. She worked at every craft show selling the candy that she made from home as well as attending most of her kids’ field trips. Bernie was passionate about helping children, she was a part of the Helping Hands Program and would take in any child in need. She became known as the mom who would feed the entire neighborhood if anyone was hungry. Bernie was also famous for her spaghetti and meatballs as well as her cannoli.
In her free time, she enjoyed feeding the birds, ducks, and deer every day. She was an avid Bingo fan as well as a card shark and dice player, one of her favorite games was Hillbilly Rummy. Her family even awarded her with a trophy for being the best Hillbilly Rummy player in the family. Bernie also liked to go to Hollywood Casino where she enjoyed playing slot machines for fun. Most importantly, she cherished her family, especially her grandbabies. Bernie will be deeply missed and cherished in the hearts of all her loved ones.
Beloved mother of Vito (Nichole) DiCarlo III, Jessica (Monte Jr.) Petit, Mark DiCarlo, Antoinette “Toni” (Jim) Steinert, James DiCarlo, Justine (Mike) McGlynn, and Angela (Doug) Johnson. Loving grandmother of Vito IV, Aaron, Tony, Tyler, Caitlyn, Nicholas, Benjamin, Madison, Samantha, Alexa, Sal, and Giacamo. Great-grandmother of Vito V, Angelaina, Julien, Ana, Noelle, Jacob, Sophie, Peyton, Mason, Luca, Logan, and Colette. Dear sister of Joseph (Dan) Soncrant and Charlotte (Mitch) Farris.
In addition to her parents, Bernie was preceded in death by husband: Vito Jr. granddaughters: Jessica Steinert and Emily Sargent; and siblings: Peter Soncrant, Mary Larue, and Jim Soncrant.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home from 3 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Rupp Funeral Home starting at 11 am. Officiating is Chaplin Chris Lanham. Procession to St. Joseph Cemetery where committal prayers will be held where she will later be laid to rest.
