Anne R. Vandenberghe
April 17, 1948 – August 25, 2021
Anne R. Vandenberghe, age 73, passed away quietly and comfortably in her sleep on 8-25-2021 in her home in Brooklyn, MI. Born April 17, 1948, in Renton, Washington. Loving, devoted and faithful Wife to husband John J. Vandenberghe. She was the daughter of the late William and Marion Smelter. Loving mother of James, Kimberly and Stephen (Jodi) White; grandmother of Nora White; dear sister of Dave Smelter (Jimmie); Mark Smelter; Linda Smelter-Wanta (Myron); Tim Smelter (Cindy). Stepdaughter to Mary (Mom) Smelter. Stepmother to Tim and Maggie Vandenberghe (Amber and Autumn).
Anne spent many years as an ice-skating instructor. She directed, designed costumes, composed choreography, and chose the associated music for many large ice shows for the City of Southgate. She was loved by all of her skating students, both children and adults, that she coached over the many years.
Anne was an avid outdoors woman. She cherished her time outside gardening, planting flowers and vegetables, hunting, trail walking, feeding the birds, sunbathing, and raspberry picking. She also loved the snowbird months with John at their home in Bonita Springs, Florida where you could find her scouring one of her many favorite beaches for shells or pulling the one-armed bandits at the local casinos. Anne was very adventurous, enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and even sky dived in her late 60’s.
Anne was the proud grandmother of Nora White. She cherished her time with her only grandchild and inherited the nickname of “Grannie Annie” from Nora. They spent many hours in the woods having scavenger hunts, swimming in Deep Lake, and having picnics in the deer blinds. She taught Nora so much about life, especially the simple things.
Anne was an incredible, caring, giving and courageous woman with a tremendous will to live. You can find her now in Heaven.
