Alan George Gasper

Alan George Gasper, age 77 of Monroe, passed away at 7:52 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Corewell Health Taylor Hospital
Born July 17, 1947, in Monroe, he is the son of the late George and Viola (Hess) Gasper. He attended Monroe High School, graduating with the class of 1965. He attended Eastern Michigan University for two years before serving his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Japan for several years and worked as a code interceptor monitoring Russian radio transmissions during the Vietnam War. After returning home, Alan began working on the assembly line at General Motors, later leaving to help his father on the family farm. The two also worked as electricians wiring houses for Litz Electric, and later at Strand Manufacturing. Around 1980 Alan began working at Ford Motor Company in Monroe as a welder fixture repair technician. Alan married his beloved wife, Susan Frederick, on October 16, 1995, in Monroe.
In his retirement, Alan enjoyed spending a lot of time in his large vegetable garden, hunting, and fishing. He also took great pride in growing his giant pumpkins each year and taking them to the giant pumpkin weigh-offs. Alan enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Pistons anytime there was a game on TV. Later in life, spending time with his grandchildren became one of his greatest joys.
To cherish his memory, Alan leaves his wife, Susan Gasper of Monroe; one son, Adam (Abigail) Gasper of Paw Paw, Michigan; step-children, Robert (Melissa) Shankleton of La Salle and Tammy (Jim) Duchenne of Haughton, Louisiana; four siblings: Diane Sweet of Maybee, Paul (Kim) Gasper of Hanover, Michigan, David Gasper of Atlanta, Michigan; Dorothy (Aaron) Oderkirk of Maybee; and five grandchildren: Wesley, Rowan, Georgia, Brian, and Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and services celebrating his life took place at 3 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2024, at Rupp Funeral Home, 2345 S. Custer Road, Monroe, MI 48161. Rev. Fr. Mike Woroniewicz, Pastor of St Gabriel Parish, officiated.
Memorial contributions in Alan’s memory are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
